26 years old man arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen money in Kuruman

NORTHERN CAPE – On Wednesday, 22 January 2020 a 26-year-old man was arrested in Kuruman at about 11:25.

Sergeant Tshepo Maemo stationed at Kuruman POP Unit was busy doing foot patrol duties in Livingstone Street when he noticed an unknown man running towards Kuruman taxi rank. He tried to stop the man but he kept on running.

Sergeant Maema immediately chased the man on foot and found him hiding at the back of one of the taxis. He saw him in possession of a lunch box and upon closer inspection an undisclosed amount of cash was found.

The suspect could not give satisfactory explanation as to where he got the money from. Through further investigation it was established that a 72-year-old woman reported that she was robbed of her lunch box which contained an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect will appear before the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court for possession of suspected stolen money and robbery.

The Cluster Commander of JTG Major General Johan Bean applauded and complimented Sergeant Maema for his vigilance and swift action. Major General Bean said arresting criminals of this nature is a clear reflection that the police and the community in JTG will not share space with criminals.
