EASTERN CAPE – The relentless efforts by detectives from Moyeni SAPS led to the arrest of six suspects following the murder of a 64-year-old retired male Fundisile Swapi.
On the 25 of May 2020, the wife of the deceased reported to the SAPS that both she and her husband were at their home in the Mgababa Admin Area. They were both watching Television when a group of unknown persons entered their home through the door which was unlocked wearing masks. All of the suspects were carrying weapons. They went straight to the husband and began attacking him. She was allegedly taken into another room, covered with a pillow case, whilst the suspects continued to attack her husband. After the attack all the suspects fled.
Nothing was taken from the house. An ambulance was summoned and the victim was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigating officer and Branch Commander, Warrant Officer Lungisa Makina with investigator Siyabulela Moni, began their investigation.
The team followed all the leads and information which led them to the arrest of a 33-year-old man, who, during the interview, volunteered to submit a confession that led to the arrest of 3 other men and the wife of the deceased.
On Friday 05 June 2020, Phumlisa Deyi the only female aged 34, together with all the male suspects namely Siyabulela Nzelani aged 26, Khanyisa Ncumani aged 33, Siviwe Ngqangweni aged 28 and Bathandwa Mzwali, appeared in the Peddie Magistrates Court. The motive for the killing is unknown.
They have all been remanded in custody until their next court appearance on the 10 June 2020.
