65 Suspects arrested as a result of high density crime prevention operations in Mfuleni

CAPE TOWN – The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile kept his promise by ensuring that more operations are conducted to ensure that there are more boots on the ground in our communities.

On Friday, 13 January 2023, various SAPS units joined by the Departent of Home Affairs and the City of Cape Town Law Enforcement agencies conducted an integrated operation in the Mfuleni policing precinct. Forces were deployed, focusing on liquor operations, drugs, searching of vehicles and individuals at vehicle control points, illegal firearms, undocumented persons and visibility in the area.

Several search warrants, roadblocks and foot patrols were executed and during the operation a total of 65 suspects were arrested on charges related to firearms, drugs, stolen property, undocumented persons and dealing in liquor without a license.

A total of 468 traffic fines to the value of R299 000.00 were issued to unlicensed drivers and vehicles that are not roadworthy.

The arrested suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s court on Monday, 16 January 2023.
