Missing baby sought by Newcastle police

Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit detectives are in search of a missing 7-month-old baby. It is alleged that on 3 August 2018, a 21-year-old mother from Mndozo area, Osizweni went to the shopping complex at Osizweni Township. She went out of the shop and stood outside the store whilst listening to the pastor who was preaching outside the shop. An unknown female approached her and requested to carry the baby for her. The mother gave her the child as she pretended to play with the child. The woman then gave the mother some money to go inside the shop and buy a sandwich for herself while she was 'playing' with the child. When the mother came back from the shop, the woman and the child had disappeared.

A case kidnapping was opened at Osizweni SAPS and the docket was transferred Newcastle FCS for further investigation. The suspect is in her forties, dark in complexion; she was wearing a black leather jacket and a long white skirt. The police are requesting anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the baby to contact them urgently.
