North West to host horticulture expo

The North West Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development will host a horticulture expo on Friday.

The expo will be held at Madibeng Sports Ground in Brits and will be addressed by MEC Manketsi Tlhape.

Horticulture is a segment of the agriculture industry which includes the production and use of plants for food and beautification, said the department on Tuesday.

The expo is being held in partnership with the Madibeng Local Municipality.

Produce including flowers, vegetables, fruit and herbs will be on display at Friday's expo.

The expo will not only be used by farmers in the district to market their produce but it will also be an opportunity for the entire province to showcase what the horticulture sector in this region has to offer.

"The show will also afford local producers an opportunity to network and share knowledge amongst themselves.

Agriculture has for years been the backbone of the province's economy and has become a generator of employment and exports.

The expo will get underway at 9am.
