The Amathole District welcomes successful conviction of Culpable Homicide suspect at King Williams Town Regional Court in October 2020. The conviction comes after the vehicle he was driving overturned and killed two passengers on N6 in July 2017.
Detectives who worked on this cases since 2017 made sure no stone is left unturned. After the completion of the investigation the case was taken to court for decision where the investigating officer was instructed to summon and charge the driver. The suspect was summoned at Queenstown on the 05th December 2018 to appear at Court and his first appearance was on the 22nd January 2019. He appeared several times at Regional Court.
Bonga Tyobe (36) was found guilty at King Williams Town Regional Court and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for Culpable Homicide.
The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu welcomed the sentence handed down to the suspect. He thanked the Investigating Officer Sergeant Xola John of Kei Road SAPS for thorough investigation and job well done in ensuring that the perpetrator is behind bars. “This shows great sense of the SAPS mandate to bring justice to the communities and create a safer environment for all” he added.
