Ashton Police arrest and detain five suspects for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

CAPE TOWN – Police members of Ashton SAPS arrested five males in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Wednesday, 05 October 2022 at around 20:00

The members received information pertaining to a possible business robbery in one of the neighbouring towns. The members operationalised the information and proceeded to the road which connects Ashton to Swellendam. Their patience was rewarded when they spotted the vehicle fitting the description circulated and brought it to a halt. The members conducted a search of the vehicle and the occupants. The police members confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition including an imitation firearm. Five males aged between 20 and 35 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are expected to appear in the Ashton Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charge.
