Bassil: Many vainly attempting to abolish our identity

Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Gebran Bassil, said on Thursday that many were relentlessly attempting to abolish the Lebanese identity by means of “reengineering” the East, isolating it, and eradicating its uniqueness.

“Lebanon shares Africa’s sufferings as both countries are being challenged by foreign sides that forcefully attempt to put an end to their individuality, but we have weathered all attempts, remained steadfast, and crushed settlers,” Bassil added.

The Minister’s words came in an address he gave during the inauguration of the Lebanese Diaspora Energy Conference currently being held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“The Lebanese carry a message of fraternity and forgiveness among people. We advocate civilized dialogue that tackles all topics,” Bassil said, mentioning the sufferings that Lebanon endures due to the countless Israeli violations and rampant terrorism.

Moreover, the Minister hailed the Lebanese Diaspora in Africa, saying that it enjoys a sense of openness and initiative. “The Lebanese Diaspora is an added value to hosting countries,” he added.
