Battle starts on high note in Harders Cup tourney


The 4th Harders Cup annual football tournament on Friday kicked off at L deritz with teams displaying quality football and determination to shine as they compete for the N . dollars 420 000 prize money . Round 32 of the tourney kicked off at the L deritz football field with 21 teams participating . The tournament ends on Sunday and sees 20 teams from the || Kharas Second Division League and one team from the First Division League competing . On Saturday about seven games are expected to take place , with all quarterfinals games to be played . Speaking to this news agency Friday night , one of the tournament organisers Emrico Blaauw said there was a delay at the start of the tourney as some teams arrived late . ‘ We can really see that the teams , the players want to win . We are seeing quality football , even from the teams that are at the bottom of the table in the league – they are performing here , while those at the top are being knocked out ,’ he added . According to him it is the first time the Harder
s Cup is incorporating teams from all over the region ; in the past only teams from L deritz took part in the tourney . ‘ We should say this is one of the biggest tournaments in the country , when you look at the prize money and we are excited that teams from all over the region can compete and we thank the sponsors for making that possible ,’ said Blaauw . The tournament has a total purse of N . dollars 420 000 . The winners will walk away with N . dollars 200 000 and a floating trophy , runners – up will receive N . dollars 100 000 while the third and fourth place winners will walk away with N . dollars 50 000 and N . dollars 30 000 respectively . The top scorer and player of the tournament will receive N . dollars 20 000 each . The event will also see a music show on Saturday night with 13 local musicians expected to perform . (
