BMA Commissioner to Oversee Security Measures at Lebombo Port for Easter

Lebombo: The Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr. Michael Masiapato, will oversee the implementation of enhanced security measures at the Lebombo port of entry in preparation for the Easter holiday period. This initiative is part of an effort to ensure efficient and secure processing of travelers during this busy time.

According to South African Government News Agency, the BMA, which is the third law enforcement service in the Republic, has introduced advanced technological tools to aid in security efforts. These include the deployment of drones and body-worn cameras, aimed at providing additional support to the on-ground security personnel.

Dr. Masiapato’s duties will include monitoring both the deployment of resources and the movement of travelers through the port. In anticipation of increased traffic, several ports that do not typically operate on a 24-hour basis have extended their service hours specifically for the Easter holidays.

The BMA has confirmed that Commissioner Masiapat
o will be present in Lebombo from April 15 to April 18, 2025. This period coincides with a significant outflow of travelers from the country. Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Jane Thupana will be stationed at Beitbridge from April 16 to April 17, 2025.

To manage the influx of returning travelers after Easter, Commissioner Masiapato will shift his focus to the Beitbridge port of entry from April 20 to April 22, 2025.
