Child rapist gets 20 years behind bars

BLOEMSPRUIT – A man who raped a then-13-year-old girl at Phase 6, in Bloemspruit vicinity, Bloemfontein is sentenced to twenty years’ imprisonment.

The Magistrate Court sentenced Keabetswe Christiano (22) after convicting him of rape of a minor.

The victim’s mother reported that her child fell ill; she took her to the doctor, and they discovered that she was not sick but actually five months pregnant. Upon questioning, the child unfolded her ordeal to her mother, saying that on 9 September 2020, the accused Christiano called her to his shack where he forcefully raped her.

A rape case was reported to the police on Wednesday 3 March 2021 and the suspect, Christiano, was arrested, thanks to the dedicated investigating officer, Detective Seargent Bokamoso Peter of the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

Christiano got bail at his early appearance in court, however, due to his failure to adhere to the conditions of his bail. He was then re-arrested and remained behind bars until his sentencing.
