Committed police members arrest suspects in possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs

WESTERN CAPE – The commitment of police members to bring the perpetrators of justice to book paid off when two suspects were arrested and detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs.
Atlantis police members were busy with patrols on Thursday 24 November 2022. When the patrol vehicle drove down Grosvener Avenue in Saxonsea at around 13:15, they noticed a male who appeared to be disorientated when he saw the patrol vehicle. The police members approached the man and searched him and confiscated a zip gun with ammunition. The 36-year-old male was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Police members of the Provincial Extortion Team pursued information and drove to an identified address in Marikana informal settlement in Philippi East. Upon searching the premises they confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of R20 000-00. They arrested and detained a 45-year-old male on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Atlantis and Athlone Magistrate Courts on the mentioned charges.
