Cricket Goes to Colleges

THE Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) will soon take the sport to universities and colleges in its continuous expansion programme.
ZCU president Reuben Chama said this yesterday during the annual general meeting (AGM) held at Mulungushi University in Kabwe.
Chama said while ZCU was growing the sports through primary and secondary schools, it had realised that taking it to tertiary institutions would also be helpful in achieving the goals.
“We have a general aim of spreading the sport beyond Lusaka and the Copperbelt provinces where it was prior to our coming into office, but now through primary and secondary schools, we are in six provinces which now include North-Western, Northern, Eastern and Southern provinces.
He also informed the ZCU Council that the International Cricket Council (ICC), through the regional office in South Africa, had promised to help out with kit once the project got underway.
Meanwhile, the ZCU Congress unanimously backed Chama to re-contest his position as Regional Director of Southern and Central Africa.
Both the Midlands and Copperbelt bodies agreed that Chama should re-contest his position and keep the position within Zambia as that will help accelerate cricket development.
