Deputy Minister in The Presidency Thembi Siweya to visit Port of Ngqura/Coega Precinct to monitor and hold business Imbizo

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya, MP, will visit maritime economic projects operating and earmarked within the Ngqura/Coega precinct in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, Eastern Cape Province on 05 February 2020. The purpose of the visit is to assess progress and impact of the Oceans Economy projects that are under the Operation Phakhisa programme and identifying policy gaps that delays the implementation of National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030.

The Ocean Economy is a strategic sector that can significantly grow the economy and contribute in dealing with the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality as envisaged in the NDP Vision 2030. Deputy Minister Siweya will be accompanied by Deputy Minister of Treasury Dr Masondo, Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise, Mr Musualle and Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Magadzi as well as the provincial leadership and senior managers of the South Africa Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).

Subsequent to the visit, the Deputy Minister will engage with the business community on existing opportunities in the ocean economy and possibilities for partnerships with the government.
