Firearms recovered, arrests are imminent

MALETSWAI – Members continue with their efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms. An intelligence driven operation led to the recovery of three stolen firearms at a house in Maletswai on Thursday last week.

On Saturday evening, 07 January 2022, intelligence information was operationalised which led to a house in Vula Vala, Maletswai.

Police recovered three firearms (a revolver and two hunting rifles), which were stashed in different areas inside the house.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the three firearms were stolen during a burglary at a farm in Maletswai on Thursday, 05 January 2023, where firearms, jewellery and laptops were stolen. The investigation is continuing, and the arrest of the suspects is imminent.

The District Commissioner, Major General Lindelwa Vellem commended members for the good work. “We are happy to see that firearms are off the hands of criminals”, added Maj Gen Vellem.
