Fourteen suspects arrested for unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Khayelitsha

WESTERN CAPE – Police recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition and arrested fourteen suspects Friday night in the Khayelitsha area.

On 27 May 2021 at 21:15, members attached to Tactical Combat Task Team (TRT/POP) on deployment to focus on extortion in Khayelitsha area were doing patrols in Y block when they spotted a group of men in front of a tavern at Khosa Street Y 745, Site B and approached them.

The group immediately ran onto the tavern premises but was stopped by the SAPS members. Upon searching the individuals and the surroundings two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were found and confiscated.

The suspects aged between 23 and 39 were arrested and detained at Khayelitsha SAPS on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They are due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday, 31 May 2021, on the mentioned charges.
