Fraud prevention crime awareness campaign conducted through the airwaves

POLOKWANE – Following the PCCF instruction on the prevention of fraud and conducting campaigns to educate communities to be aware of the prevalence these cases in the Province, the Provincial Corporate Communication in collaboration with Provincial Commercial Component, crafted a Communication plan for immediate implementation.

Yesterday on, Friday 13 January 2023, the Provincial Head of Corporate Communication in Limpopo Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, accompanied by Media Relations Commander Colonel Malesela Ledwaba and Maake SAPS Station Communication officer Sergeant Shikwambane Patricia visited Maruleng Community radio station to conduct an awareness as part of the implementation. The areas that were covered are the following:

DEPOSITS SCAM

An advert on the sale of a motor vehicle is placed on social media with an account number for the interested persons to deposit the money before the vehicle could be delivered. The unsuspecting victims then deposit the money and the vehicles are never delivered.

CARD SWAPPING AT ATM

This happens when the card holder becomes disturbed that his/her card becomes jammed in the ATM machine and he/she is offered assistance by strangers. This is the moment whereby an opportunity is presented to swap the card.

Other areas covered included: tender scam, job seekers scam, sim-swapping, fraudsters requesting PIN number, email hacking and fly-by-night schools.

Contact details of relevant Stakeholders were shared to the listeners to call anytime they need help or to get more information. The campaigns are continuing.
