PARKTOWN – Gauteng police have noted with concern the recirculating of an old video clip purported to be a new incident wherein a police officer was paid by a complainant of burglary/robbery to assist with the recovery of the complainant’s stolen vehicle. This video clip was extracted from an investigative television show based on the incident that occurred in 2019.
Following the broadcast of the show, the member was charged both departmentally and criminally. The departmental investigation found the member guilty of corruption and he was subsequently dismissed from the Service in 2021.
The criminal case on the other hand was investigated by the Provincial Anti-Corruption unit. After the investigation, the member was arrested in 2020 and he is currently facing the full might of the law. He is expected back before the court on 08 November 2022.
The Provincial Management is discouraging the recirculating of old videos that only serve to taint the image of the organisation. However, when the public is witnessing the police committing crime or corruption, the Management of the Police encourages the public to share those videos as that will strengthen the Service’s resolve to deal decisively with corruption and criminality.
