Gqeberha: Flying Squad members arrest two suspects for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition

Two suspects were arrested last night, 27 September 2021, at about 18:00, in Central by SAPS Flying Squad members for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

This followed after the police members operationalized information about illegal firearms, and noticed the two suspects in Havelock Street, Central. As soon as the police vehicle was noticed, the two suspects attempted to run away. After a brief chase, they were cornered in a side street and apprehended.

On searching the two suspects, a 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition was found in the possession of one of the suspects (29), and a further two rounds of ammunition was found in possession of the second suspect (23).

The confiscated firearm will be sent for further ballistic and forensic analysis for possible linkages with other crimes.

Both suspects, aged 29 and 23, were arrested on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and they are set to appear before the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 September 2021, to face the respective charges against them.
