Man to appear in court for truck hijacking

NELSPRUIT – The Provincial Commissioner SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has expressed her appreciation for the good work done by members from Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) in conjunction with SAPS members from Springs for arresting a 40-year old male suspect recovering a diesel tanker in Delmas. The suspect was cornered yesterday, 15 June 2022 following a high-speed chase by the said members.

According to the information today around 11:41, members of the SAPS from Delmas were informed about a diesel tanker that was hijacked in Sonkizizwe near Bronkhorstspruit earlier yesterday and was heading towards Road just before the R42 Bronkhorstspruit off ramp. The members from EMPD together with the SAPS members from Springs assisted in chasing and cornering the truck. There was reportedly one occupant who was the driver at the time. The man was then arrested and charged for possession of stolen diesel tanker as well as possibly linked to the incident in which the tanker was stolen at Bronkhorstspruit (in Gauteng Province).

He is expected to appear in the Delmas District Court tomorrow, Friday 17 June 2022 facing the said charges. Preliminary investigation has so far revealed the suspect could be connected to other incidents with regard to theft of diesel and theft of diesel tankers.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has feather appreciated the collaboration that was displayed by the members which subsequently led to the arrest of the suspect as well as the recovery of the truck.
