CAPE TOWN – Integrated efforts by members of Operation Restore, Operation Lockdown and Lingelethu West police to fight crime led to the arrest of a 44-year-old male for not storing his firearm in the prescribed manner and dealing in liquor without a license. The members were busy with a liquor operation when they found a 9mm pistol in a cupboard in the bedroom and confiscated liquor at the premises in Endlovini informal settlement.

In an unrelated matter, Operation Restore members arrested a 30-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Mazizini Street, Brown’s Farm, Nyanga on Saturday, 25 June 2022, during the early hours of the morning. The members were busy with stop and search operations in the area in an effort to curb robberies when the suspect saw the police and started to run. The suspect was chased and apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are due to make their respective court appearances in Athlone and Khayelitsha.

Furthermore Western Cape detectives arrested 516 wanted suspects during tracing operation this week. These suspects were sought on charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, sexual offences, robbery, burglary and possession of firearms and drugs.

The Western Cape police management commended the members for their commitment in the fight against crime and ensuring a safe and secure environment to the communities.
