Over Twenty Cars Smuggled Into Malawi From RSA, Police Say

Police in Blantyre have released the consolidated report through Tugela Operation for the whole country for vehicles which have been detected to have been stolen from South Africa and smuggled into the country

The report made available to Malawi24, shows tampered with on chassis numbers are 20 in number ,ranging from Toyota Fortuner, Toyota d/cabins, Toyota Hilux d/cabins, Toyota Hilux s/cab, Mercedes Benz, Toyota Hilux pick up, Audi, Toyota Raider.

The cars are believed to have been stolen from South Africa and were illegally sold in Malawi. No documents of where these cars were purchased have been produced by holders.

The report further shows that police are keeping in custody close to 67 People on different charges. The suspect offence ranges from possession of cannabis, counterfeit products like medical drugs and greener rifle number 53821.

Other suspects were arrested while selling fuel without licence and keeping properties believed to have been stolen.

Meanwhile Southern Region Police Public Relations Officer Rhoda Manjolo has called on the general public to desist and be more careful when buying things or doing business to avoid being a victim in the future.

Manjolo told Malawi24 “The Community is being reminded to seek medical attention in hospitals or clinics which are licensed and buy standard products, all this happened because of good relationship between MPS and other stakeholders and we are still appealing for that cooperation to continue because together we will provide security.”
