Police clamp down on drugs during operations

BUTTERWORTH – Dealing in drugs remains a serious criminal offence and the South African Police Service is mandated to and will act against a person that is illegally in possession of drugs.

On Saturday, 5 June 2021, police members in Butterworth were conducting Vuthu Hawe operations when they arrested a 29-year-male in possession of drugs.

Police followed up on information received of a suspect allegedly dealing in drugs at his home at Skithi Informal Settlement outside Butterworth. The shack was searched and a plastic bag with tik and one plastic bag with cocaine was found. The suspect was detained for possession of drugs and will appear in the Butterworth magistrate court on 7 June 2021.

In another unrelated incident, Alice Operational Command Centre (OCC) members were busy with an operation when they arrested three suspects for dealing in drugs. Members acted on information received and searched a house at Ntselamanzi Location outside Alice. A search warrant was executed and they recovered five halves of mandrax tablets, five quarters of mandrax tablets and six rolls of dagga. The suspects were arrested and charged for possession and dealing in drugs.

The suspect will appear in the Alice magistrate court tomorrow.
