Police probe inquest after tavern deaths in Hofmeyr

The SAPS in the Eastern Cape has registered an inquest docket for investigation after three girls died in a tavern on Saturday night, 24 December 2022 in Hofmeyr.
Preliminary report suggests that the incident was reported to the local police after young people were allegedly sprayed with an unknown substance in the tavern. They allegedly died at the scene. The circumstances including the cause of death of the victims will form part of the investigation. We do not want to make any speculations on the incident to safeguard the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect has not been identified and therefore not known at this stage, however the investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
