Police seek parents of abandoned baby

GQEBERHA – The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Motherwell is seeking the communities’ assistance in tracing the parents of a baby boy who was found abandoned in New Brighton on Sunday, 26 June 2022.

It is reported that on the mentioned date at about midday, a community member was looking for scrap metal when he stumbled upon a baby in a box near a tree in a park in Gqalo Street. He then sought the assistance of other community members and contacted the police. The baby was fully clothed and alive. He is about one month old. He was taken to Dora Nginza hospital.

A case of child abandonment is under investigation.

Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing the parents of the baby or may know of any woman who may have given birth recently to contact Detective Warrant Offier Riaan Krause on 071 352 4674 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. All information is confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
