Rapist imprisoned 20 years behind bars

A 19-years – old Franco Jerome Sophe was found guilty and sentenced by De Aar Regional Court to 20 years direct imprisonment for raping a 48-year-old man and for assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

The Northern Cape Police Management applauded the investigating officer, Sergeant Olifant for meticulously investigating the case and praised the National Prosecuting Authority, Department of Justice for restoring justice by handing hefty sentence against the perpetrator.

During the trial it emerged that on April 2017 Jerome stormed into the house of a 48-year-old victim and raped him at knife point. He was released on bail. In July 2019 he assaulted a 14-year-old girl and caused her grievous bodily harm.

The Northern Cape Police Management believe that the sentence will deter criminals from committing violent crimes. Source: South African Police Service
