BOTHASIG – On Friday 06 August 2021, members from SAPS Bothasig partnering with Cedar Spar Bothasig and SAPS Brackenfell, paid a surprise visit to the studios of Bok Radio in Brackenfell.

The aim was to commemorate the upcoming Woman’s Day and to launch the Purple hamburger roll project which is currently in its third year, whereby awareness against gender based violence against women is raised. The project is a partnership between SAPS Bothasig and Cedar Spar Bothasig whereby a limited amount of purple rolls are produced and sold by Cedar Spar in order to locally raise awareness regarding crimes against women.

At Bok Radio, the surprised staff were spoilt with packets containing fresh purple rolls as well as awareness pamphlets covering topics such as domestic violence, gender based violence and sexual offences. SAPS Brackenfell added to the mix when the communications officer, Capt Erica Crous, handed out awareness pamphlets which had lollipops attached to it. All the recipients were amazed by the kind gesture and thanked SAPS for looking out for them, and Cedar Spar for the rolls.

A while later the purple rolls were also made available to the public at Cedar Spar in Bothasig. At the store awareness pamphlets on domestic violence and sexual offences were also available to clients visiting the bakery. Store manager Janice Scrimgeour mentioned that Cedar Spar always enjoyed partnering with SAPS Bothasig with awareness campaigns, especially ones as important as the safety of females.
