Pretoria: The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the North West Province is investigating a tragic incident in Mosiane View village, where a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his 48-year-old mother with a shovel on Saturday morning.

According to South African Government News Agency, a video circulating on social media shows the son attacking his mother. The incident escalated when the aggressive son later succumbed to his injuries after being shot by a neighbor who intervened to calm the situation. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.

North West Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police, Major General Patrick Asaneng, highlighted the incident as indicative of broader societal issues, referring to it as a “sadistic, gruesome and senseless death.” He emphasized the potential link to satanic rituals or drug addiction affecting young people. Major General Asaneng stressed the need for a thorough investigation by the SAPS Occult Related Crimes Unit to uncover the underlying factors of this tragedy.
