SASSA Emphasizes Registered Cellphone Numbers for SRD Grant Applications

Pretoria: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has called on applicants of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, valued at R370, to ensure they use cellphone numbers registered under their names for official applications. This is a critical step in the application process, the agency noted.

According to South African Government News Agency, SASSA emphasized the importance of accurate cellphone numbers and banking details, as these are crucial for tracking application progress and receiving necessary notifications. The agency highlighted that using a registered number allows applicants and beneficiaries to efficiently monitor their applications and respond to messages requiring their attention.

The agency further detailed that these notifications include messages related to the verification process, which is essential for the success of the application. Without completing this verification, applicants will not receive the grant. SASSA reiterated that this process is vital to ensure the grant reaches the correct recipient and helps combat fraudulent activities.

SASSA also pointed out that if the banking details do not match the applicant’s information, the system will not authorize the payment. Once the banking details are verified and confirmed, the grant will be disbursed in the next payment cycle. To prevent delays, applicants are advised to provide precise information during the application process.
