Stock theft suspect nabbed at Hekpoort

Hekpoort Police arrested a 58-year-old man at R24 Road around Hekpoort area on Friday 2021-11-12 for possession of suspected livestock theft and bribery.

The Hekpoort Police were conducting routine crime prevention duties when they stopped and searched a white bakkie and found 17 unmarked goats to the value of approximately R51 000-00.

The driver produced a fake permit and offered members an amount of R9 700.00 to let him go.

The 58-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stock theft and bribery.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has a pending case of socktheft and bribery at Hartbeespoort dam SAPS.

Station Commander of Hekpoort SAPS welcomed the arrest and thanked the members for their continuous efforts in rooting out criminals around Hekooort. She also appealed to farmers to adhere to the stimulation of the Animal Identification Act and the Stock theft Act, which control the movements of animals to prevent stock theft.

Suspect is expected to appear before Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
