Sunday Independent report devoid of the truth

PRETORIA A Sunday Independent report titled New Hawks boss has criminal record has suggested that Colonel Nkosinathi Nomvalo will be taking a post as the new Commander of Serious Organised Crime in Durban on Monday.

To put the record straight, the National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has directed a thorough investigation into the matter as far back as 26 June 2018.

For the record the officer was appointed in 2015 and the post was withheld pending the outcome of his criminal case. Eventually the officer was found guilty by a court of law. Unfortunately no departmental action was taken against the member.

Lieutenant General Lebeya had already considered the officer's placement in KZN. He has already appointed a Colonel in July this year to act in the position concerned.

As indicated, internal disciplinary processes are underway against those who failed to deal with the officer's alleged misconduct.

It is unfortunate that no step whatsoever was taken by the journalist to verify these allegations, or afford the DPCI an opportunity to reply.

Only Lieutenant General Lebeya will make a final decision regarding the outcome of the enquiry and will act with integrity in rendering the DPCI of a high standard which is accessible to all and sundry.
