Suspect arrested for possession of unlawful firearms and ammunition

NORTHERN CAPE – Police in Colesberg seized five different calibres of firearms and ammunition and arrested a male suspect.

On Monday, 28 February 2022, at approximately 13h30 police in Colesberg, tactically acted on intelligence about a male person who was alleged to be in possession of three rifles, two shotguns and one pistol.

According to the information the suspect went to a guest house in Colesberg in an attempt to sell the firearms.

Members of the Colesberg police acted promptly and found the suspect in possession of the firearms and ammunition. The District Commander of the Pixley Ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis commended members who were involved in the recovery operation of the firearms.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Colesberg Magistrate’s Court soon, on a charge of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The police will continue to enforce legislature on the proliferation of firearms and ammunition in the province.
