Suspects arrested for drugs, firearms and ammunition

In their efforts to eliminate the presence of drugs and illegal firearms in our communities, the members of Harare SAPS in conjunction with Public Order Police (POPS) made a recovery of drugs and ammunition. On Friday, 2019-10-25, at about 23:05, the SAPS members followed up on information provided by the members of the community of alleged drug activities at a premises in Endlovini informal settlement, Harare in Khayelitsha. Upon arrival at the premises members entered and conducted a search and discovered 39 full mandrax tablets, 11 half mandrax tablets, one quarter mandrax tablet, 12 dagga cigarettes, eight packets of tik, 38 rounds of ammunition and a substantial amount of cash. Once charged a 22-year-old male suspect, who was arrested, will appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on the charge of dealing in drugs as well as illegal possession of ammunition.

In an unrelated incident members of Bishop Lavis SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, recovered yet another firearm in their policing precinct. This firearm was discovered at a shop that has been robbed for several times in the area.

Thursday (2019-10-24) afternoon whilst doing routine patrols in the airport industrial, the members were alerted by one of the petrol attendants about a fraudulent transaction. When the members approached the vehicle, it was still parked in front of a fuel pump with two occupants. After engaging with the occupants, the members conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and occupants. The driver of the vehicle could not produce a valid licence when one 9mm Vector Pistol with one Magazine filled with 13 rounds of ammunition were found in between the two front seats. When the passenger was questioned about the discovery, he indicated that he was not aware of a firearm in the vehicle.

Both males aged 31 and 27 were arrested and they are expected to make a court appearance once charged for possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition.
