Suspects in court for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – In the fight against the possession of unlicensed or prohibited firearms and ammunition, police members in the Western Cape continue with their mandate to arrest suspects who are found in possession of firearms and ammunition without a valid license.

Goodwood police members were busy with patrols on Wednesday 20 July 2022 at around 10:00, when a community member alerted them about a man who was seen walking in the streets with a firearm in his hand. They spotted a man near to Bloem Street who fitted the description and searched him, when they found a 9mm pistol. The 28 year old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm.

In an unrelated incident Lingelethu-West police members conducted stop and search operations on Thursday 21 July 2022. Upon entering Jordane Circle, they noticed a Toyota Fortuner parked on the side of the road. They searched the occupants of the vehicle and confiscated a Norinco 9mm pistol with ammunition. A 56 year old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Goodwood and Khayelitsha Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
