The Pietermaritzburg Regional Court sentenced Khanyisani Dlamini (23) and Sphamandla Luthuli (26) to 15 years each for the murder cases that they committed.

On 5 June 2018, the body of Lulekani Shezi (23) was found on the R624 in Eston Road near a farm with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. A case of murder was opened at Mid Illovo SAPS for investigation. The investigating officer assigned to investigate the docket commenced his investigation. His investigation led to the arrest of Khanyisani Dlamini. The investigation conducted revealed that he was killed following an argument over the theft of stock. The accused made several court appearances until his sentence.

In another case, Sphamandla Luthuli (26) was sentenced to 15 years for murder and four years was wholly suspended. His sentence came after the court heard how he killed his nephew on the morning of 3 February 2020. Sthabiso Luthuli (26) was severely assaulted by his uncle. His body was found at the back of a bakkie when a security company stopped the suspect’s vehicle on the R603 in Eston. He was declared dead at the scene. During the investigation it emerged that Sthabiso was taken from Hammersdale to Eston where he was assaulted to death. The accused was placed under arrest and tried in court.
