GAUTENG – A 40-year-old police Sergeant is expected to appear in court later in October 2022, for allegedly defeating the administration of justice during April this year after he was summoned yesterday.<\/p>\n
The allegations are that the police Sergeant stationed at Lyttleton police station interfered with a bail application of a suspect who was charged for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle. It is reported that the Sergeant was instructed to ask for seven days postponement by his commander in order for the suspect to be linked to another case from Garsfontein. The Sergeant disregarded the instruction despite the fact that the suspect was not yet profiled nor his address verified.<\/p>\n
The investigating officer (IO) further submitted a bail affidavit indicating that the suspect was eligible to be granted bail and also stated that there were no pending cases against him. The control Prosecutor became suspicious at the IO\u2019s submission and a preliminary investigation was conducted which revealed that the suspect in fact had four outstanding cases against him.<\/p>\n
The Hawks\u2019 Serious Corruption Investigation team was summoned after the case was registered in May 2022. The case docket was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) which has now ruled that the Sergeant answer to the charges preferred against him on in the Pretoria North Regional Court on 26 October 2022. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
